History

Welcome to the Official website of the Wildfire German Shorthaired Pointers. The Wildfire German shorthaired pointer Kennel name was originated by Joe Vicari. Joe has been campaigning and training German Shorthaired Pointers for over 35 years in Field Trials. He has trained, handled and owned four dogs that have been inducted into the GPSCA Hall of Fame and one dog inducted into the NGSPA Hall of Fame.

In 1975, Joe, Pat and kids brought home a puppy named “Sport” or P.J. Wildfire as a gift for Mother’s Day. When the family picked out Sport we knew that he was different from the rest of the puppies. P.J. Wildfire was a blessing sent to the Vicari household. Sport died in 1990 and will never be forgotten and is deeply missed. The P.J. Wildfire name came about because the family liked the popular song by Michael Murphy named “WILDFIRE”. The P stands for Pat Vicari and the J stands for Joe Vicari.

P.J Wildfire made the NGSPA and GSPCA Hall of Fame for German Shorthaired Pointers and produced two dogs that made the GSPCA Hall of Fame. He has over 100 AKC wins and 12 Hour Championship wins and runner-ups. He is also one of the leading German Shorthaired Pointers in American History that has produced many top dogs in our nation. P.J. Wildfire’s blood-line continues to impact today’s generation of field trail shorthairs.

February 6, 2010 – Joe Vicari accepts P.J. Wildfire’s induction into the GSPCA Hall of Fame at the National Bird Dog Museum in Grand Junction, Tennessee. P.J. Wildfire is only one of six German Shorthaired Pointers to be inducted into the Hall of Fame at this time. A picture of P.J. Wildfire was hung at the Museum to allow tourists to see one of the most memorable Field Trail dogs in history.
